This week we are featuring Kenzie Powell! She is sharing some incredible things and advice that helped her after the loss of her daughter Sophie. We love the perspective of others and we hope you enjoy it as well!
•Kenzie and Sophie:
I am from Sandy, Utah! My husband and I have been married for two and half years now. 2018 started out super exciting when we found out we were pregnant in February. When we found out we were having a girl we knew that we wanted to name her Sophie.
At our 20 week ultrasound we found our Sophie had a congenital heart defect that would need to be corrected after she was born. We were saddened by this news but could not wait to meet our baby girl.
Unfortunately, at 33 weeks pregnant, the doctors found that Sophie’s heart had stopped beating and she was then delivered the next day. She was the most beautiful girl. She had her daddy’s nose and my lips and longer second toe. We were so happy to know that she will forever be apart of our family!
•What helped Kenzie the most after her loss:
SELF-CARE! This has been huge for me. I look for something every day to do for myself that will make me happy.
Grief is an absolute rollercoaster but I have found that if I look for one thing in my day that gives me even a sliver of happiness. That my grief process will at least be a little more tolerable.
•How Kenzie is reminded of Sophie:
I see hearts everywhere I go! These are little reminders that my babe is here with me!💕
Something else that has really given me purpose is Sophie’s middle name we chose for her “JOI”
Joy {JOI} is a feeling that you can have even through hard times. And that is something my little girl reminds me everyday when times get hard. We are overjoyed that we got to spend close to 8 months with her:)
